What is Apple TV? – Apple TV Review
Apple TV finally got the religion – smaller in size, but much better offerings. You can now get all new movies and TV you want, and Netflix too. The unit is much smaller, about 4” by 4”, uses minimal amount of energy, and is quiet. With the Apple TV you pay for what you want to watch, not what the Cable company wants you to watch. It has a huge selection of HD movies:
iTunes Store – rent movies and TV shows commercial free, 99 cents per episode
Netflix – instant access to all they have – need Netflix subscription, of course
YouTube, Flickr, and MobileMe – all there
Stream Music, Videos and photos from your Mac or PC
The Apple TV has Included remote control – or you can also use your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch via free Remote app ( get it from iTunes),
and it is QUIET – it uses so little electricity, it needs no cooling fan!
Apple TV 2nd Gen is compatible with high-definition TVs with HDMI and capable of 720p 60/50Hz, including popular models from these : Hitachi, JVC, LG, Mitsubishi, NEC, Panasonic, Philips, Pioneer, Samsung, Sony, Sharp, Toshiba, Vizio, Westinghouse.
Whether you have the old Apple TV unit, or want to explore something new,
the AppleTV 2nd Gen is the way to go.
So how does it work?
Well, all you have to do is hook it up to your TV, and on to the Internet – either through wireless connection or standard network cable(Ethernet). Oh, yeah, you do need to plug it into the wall – but the power supply is built into the unit, so it streamlines things even more. Once it’s plugged in – follow the onscreen instructions.
Apple TV is on it’s way to make cable TV obsolete – which is a good thing since Cable costs a tonn of money, mostly for things nobody wants to watch anyway. Enjoy!
Streaming Netflix and iTunes with Apple TV
The two main media sources you can access via the Apple TV are Netflix and iTunes. Not only can you access your Netflix Instant Queue, but you can search and browse by genre. With a $9-per-month subscription, you can stream an unlimited amount of Netflix’s streaming video content to your Apple TV. The user interface is one of the best interface that offers access to your Instant Queue, plus the ability to search and browse different categories. Your Instant Queue is laid about in a grid with box art, which is large enough to read even when we were sitting about 10 feet back.
